A Conversation with President Mary Ellen Nixon on Leadership, Vision and how the RES experience is evolving
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Mary Ellen Nixon, President of RES Exhibit Services, to get a glimpse behind the scenes and discover what has been happening in the world of exhibit services.
Mary Ellen stepped into the new President role with the company in October of 2025 and immediately hit the ground running. Her transition into this leadership position has been marked by a series of strategic initiatives aimed at revitalizing the company's approach to exhibit services and enhancing client relations.

Background and Experience
Mary Ellen brings over 15 years of experience in the exhibit and events industry, having previously held key roles in project management and client services. Her extensive background has equipped her with a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities within the sector.
Strategic Vision and Company Culture
Upon her appointment, Mary Ellen outlined a clear vision for RES Exhibit Services; Emphasizing the need to adapt to the always
evolving events industry, while fostering a culture of openness and collaboration that encourages innovation and team contribution.
Q: It's always interesting to hear what motivates someone to return to a previous workplace. What brought you back to RES?
A: Because unfinished potential is difficult to ignore.
I’ve always believed RES has one of the strongest operational foundations in the industry with manufacturing depth, engineering discipline, and the ability to bring innovation to market early.
This moment isn’t about preserving legacy. I’m interested adapting, evolving, and accelerating. We are building toward guaranteed outcomes, with design creativity engineered to deliver measurable results.
RES has always had the tools to provide exceptional craftsmanship, engineering, innovation, and a team that knows how to execute at a very high level.
I’m not wired to sit on the sidelines while that opportunity exists. I’ve spent enough time in this industry to recognize when something special exists beneath the surface.
The industry is consolidating quickly, and when that happens innovation often disappears. I don’t believe it has to. Companies that combine creativity with operational precision will define what comes next. RES has the foundation to be one of those companies.
Q: What details caught your attention once you began to settle back into the position? Were there any surprising elements or challenges that stood out to you?
A: How quickly business can shift.
In this environment, even strong relationships can change if expectations aren’t aligned. That reinforced something for me immediately: sustainable growth requires structure.
What also stood out was the depth of talent here. The craftsmanship, the experience, the institutional knowledge is deep. Our capability has always been strong.
The focus now is making sure that our strength is consistently supported with clearer project visibility, tighter coordination, proactive communication, and systems that keep the client at the center of every decision.
When creativity and discipline move together, growth becomes durable. That’s the energy driving us forward.
It sounds simple, but it’s not: Always put the client first. Every time.
Q: I'm curious about the changes and advancements that have taken place recently. How is the RES experience evolving?
A: We are moving from “space builders” to “experience strategists.”
The activation landscape demands more than fabrication. It demands insight into audience psychology including what motivates behavior, how different buyer types engage in physical space, and how environment influences decision-making.
We call this RES Insight Mapping; it’s our adaptation of psychographic mapping for live environments. Instead of designing for demographics alone, we design for mindset:
• The Evaluator who needs data
• The Explorer who wants immersion
• The Decision Maker who values efficiency
• The Advocate who seeks emotional resonance
Internally, we are enhancing our forecasting and cash visibility. We are introducing new tools for financial oversight, processes for vendor accountability, models for lifecycle cost analysis, and systems for optimizing rentals.
Externally, we are improving transparency regarding timelines, storage, freight, and payment terms. Our focus is on clearer communication, realistic timelines, transparent scopes, and fulfilling commitments to both clients and vendors.
Craftsmanship remains our foundation. Systems ensure sustainability.
Q: What message would you like to convey to our clients who have been with us throughout the years, as well as current clients who continue to support us?
A: You have seen many versions of RES.
This next chapter is grounded in transparency, disciplined execution, and creativity with measured impact. We are building systems that match our craftsmanship and relationships that reflect our values.
We’re focused on clearer communication, realistic timelines, transparent scope, and honoring commitments to both clients and vendors.
Every client working with RES should feel confidence.
Confidence that you'll receive full transparency.
Confidence that creativity will not compromise budget discipline.
Confidence that schedules are realistic.
Confidence that we will communicate early.
Leadership is often less about inspiration and more about clarity.
We are not claiming we’ve arrived; with new systems, new talent, and a clear horizon, we are well on our way. If we make a commitment, we intend to keep it.
Thank you so much for your time today!
It has been great to hear about the exciting changes and innovations that RES Exhibit Services is implementing.

The passion and creativity driving your initiatives is clear, and we can't wait to watch this evolution come to life.
